Selena Gomez recently posted a video on Instagram expressing how upset she was about Donald Trump’s actions regarding immigration. In the emotional video, the 32-year-old actress was in tears and wrote, “I’m sorry [Mexican flag emoji].”
She said, “All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.” Selena was clearly upset about what’s been happening to immigrants, especially children, under the current government.
She deleted the video shortly after, but added another post that said, “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people.” This seemed to show her frustration at not being able to help and the negative reactions to her showing compassion.
Her posts came at a time when the Trump administration was stepping up its crackdown on immigration. On January 26, almost 1,000 people were arrested in a nationwide sweep, the largest since Trump came back to power. This is part of his promise to deport undocumented immigrants. Many families, especially children, are scared because of these actions.
Additionally, Mexico recently stopped a U.S. military plane from landing, temporarily blocking Trump’s plan to send immigrants back to Mexico. This has caused more tension between the U.S. and Mexico.
Trump is also continuing to threaten tariffs on both Mexico and Canada. His actions show he is still focused on stricter immigration rules, while many people, including Selena, continue to speak out for kindness and fair treatment of immigrants.
