Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wildfire relief efforts in Los Angeles have caused some criticism, especially from actress Justine Bateman, who called them “disaster tourists.” Bateman went on social media to criticize the couple, calling them “ambulance chasers” and accusing them of using the disaster for a “photo op.” She was upset about their visit to the wildfire zone near Pasadena, where they were seen with the city’s mayor. They also visited victims of the Los Angeles fire recently.
Bateman said that since Harry and Meghan don’t live in the area, they were just “tourists” taking advantage of the situation. Although they live in Montecito, about 90 miles away, Harry and Meghan have reportedly helped by opening their home to family and friends affected by the fires, offering them supplies and essentials.
Bateman also criticized local officials during an interview on TV, saying they should be fired for not being prepared for the wildfire. The fires have killed at least 24 people, left 16 missing, and destroyed thousands of homes.
While Harry and Meghan have not responded to Bateman’s comments yet, they have been praised by others for their efforts to help behind the scenes.
