The Cure has shared a preview of their new song, “A Fragile Thing,” from their upcoming album Songs Of A Lost World, their first album in 16 years. The short clip was sent to fans through their WhatsApp channel and mailing list, giving a taste of the song’s emotional lyrics. Robert Smith sings, “There’s nothing you can do to change it back…This love is a fragile thing,” along with the band’s usual dark, haunting music, but Robert Smith auctioned signed art as well.
The song seems to be influenced by the personal loss of Smith’s family members, which adds to the album’s darker themes. Earlier, the band released their first single, “Alone,” in September, inspired by a poem, and previewed the new songs during their 2022 tour.
Smith has said that this album reflects tough times he’s gone through, describing it as “doom and gloom.” He also mentioned they are working on another album with a lighter, more upbeat mood. Songs Of A Lost World will be released on November 1, and fans can pre-order it now.
The Cure will perform two BBC shows at the end of this month, and fans can apply for tickets until October 9. The band has also teased another new song called “Endsong.”
