Robert Smith recently talked about a couple of songs that didn’t make it to their new record.
Robert Smith explains
In the new issue of Uncut, Robert Smith was asked about when The Cure played the Royal Festival Hall in 2018, and Smith performed two songs, “It Can Never Be The Same” and “Step Into The Light, that haven’t made the new record. He was asked if they were going to be finding their home.
Smith replied: “They were quite old then. We recorded them originally for the 4:13 Dream album in 2007, 2008. We have since rerecorded those and a couple of others from that session and some others from The Cure session before that, and a song from the Wish album sessions in ’91. So, yeah, I haven’t been afraid of going back in and using stuff”
The Cure is set to return in just a few weeks and on Wednesday, October 9th, the Robert Smith-led group pulled back the black curtain a bit more on their anticipated Songs of a Lost World album by revealing the tracklist and latest single, “A Fragile Thing.”
The Cure kept fans waiting for new music for a long time. The alternative rock band recently released “Alone,” their first completely new single since 2008. In the UK, the song was met with enthusiasm and quickly became a hit, reaching the top 40 on two charts. “Alone” debuted at No. 26 on the Official Singles Downloads chart and No. 27 on the Official Singles Sales chart in the UK, marking a successful return for the band.
