Kim Kardashian just helped free a former death row inmate after reportedly paying his bail — ending nearly three decades behind bars for a man whose murder conviction was overturned last year.
According to film producer and prison reform advocate Scott Budnick, Kim personally covered the bail payment for Richard Glossip, who walked out of prison this week after spending 29 years on Oklahoma’s death row.
Budnick shared photos of Glossip’s release on Instagram and publicly thanked Kardashian for stepping in financially.
“AFTER 29 YEARS INNOCENT ON OKLAHOMA’S DEATH ROW – RICHARD GLOSSIP WALKED OUT AS A FREE MAN THIS AFTERNOON!!!!”
He also revealed:
“Kim graciously paid for his bail.”
Glossip had been convicted over the 1997 killing of Oklahoma City motel owner Barry Van Treese. Prosecutors accused Glossip of hiring another man to murder his boss with a baseball bat.
But the case became one of the most controversial death penalty battles in the country after years of appeals, questions surrounding testimony, and growing support from legal advocates and celebrities.
According to reports, Glossip faced nine execution dates during his time on death row and was even served his final meal three separate times before executions were halted.
Then, in 2025, the U.S. Supreme Court threw out the conviction after determining prosecutors allowed allegedly false testimony from a key witness — a violation tied to Glossip’s constitutional right to a fair trial.
Oklahoma prosecutors still plan to retry Glossip for murder, though they reportedly will not seek the death penalty this time.
Kim Kardashian has spent years publicly pushing prison reform efforts and advocating for inmates facing questionable convictions. She has also worked directly with attorneys and lawmakers while studying law herself.
Susan Sarandon has also been among the major celebrity voices supporting Glossip’s innocence over the years.
Bottom line: Kim Kardashian just helped secure the release of former death row inmate Richard Glossip after nearly 30 years behind bars — personally paying his bail as Oklahoma prepares to retry the controversial murder case without pursuing execution this time around.
