Prince Harry Discusses Therapy at Movember Event
Prince Harry has spoken candidly about his mental health during an appearance with men’s health charity Movember in Melbourne, as he continued engagements in Australia this week. The Duke of Sussex addressed the role therapy has played in his life, while also reflecting on changing family dynamics for parents raising children in the social media era.
At the Whitten Oval, the headquarters of Australian rules football club the Western Bulldogs, Express reported that Prince Harry said he “had stuff from the past that I needed to deal with” as he discussed why therapy can be both corrective and preventative.
During an on-stage discussion with Movember’s global director of men’s health research, Dr Zac Seidler, the Duke also described advice he said he received from a therapist in the UK about being aware of emotions after a baby is born. He told the audience he had “felt a disconnection” in the early days of fatherhood and spoke about how parents must adapt as social media reshapes conversations between children and adults.
The remarks follow separate coverage of the Duke’s Melbourne comments in which he said he would not “point the finger” at King Charles when asked about family tensions during the Australia visit.
Movember, founded in Melbourne in 2003, focuses on men’s health including mental health and suicide prevention, as well as prostate and testicular cancer. Prince Harry’s appearance placed the charity’s message at the centre of his public programme, underlining his continued focus on mental health in high-profile engagements abroad.
