Prince Harry Comments Spark Fresh Debate Over King Charles Rift
Prince Harry has prompted renewed discussion about his relationship with King Charles after a report claimed the Duke’s recent reflections on parenting were taken by some as a pointed reference to his own upbringing within the royal family.
During a visit to Melbourne, Prince Harry spoke about learning from previous generations and trying to improve family experiences for the next, and The News International reported that the remarks have been interpreted in some quarters as indirect criticism of the King.
The report, citing Radar Online, quoted an unnamed source as saying that “whenever Harry speaks publicly about family” comparisons are drawn with his own upbringing, adding that the King is “sensitive to suggestions that he failed as a father” and that the latest scrutiny has left him “deeply wounded” as he focuses on his health and public duties.
The same source suggested there is a “disconnect” between Prince Harry’s intentions and how comments are received, while palace circles would prefer attention to remain on the King’s work and recovery rather than family divisions that continue to attract headlines, as seen in reporting on Kate Middleton reportedly stepping back from William-Harry talks.
Neither Buckingham Palace nor representatives for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have publicly commented on the latest claims, and it remains unclear whether the remarks will have any effect on efforts to ease tensions within the family.
