Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are enjoying winter fun at the Invictus Games in Canada. On February 10, they visited Whistler to support athletes competing in the skeleton event, which is making its debut at the Games. This is the first time winter sports have been included since Harry created the competition in 2014 for injured service members and veterans.
When they arrived, Harry went on stage and was introduced by Canadian singer Michael Bublé, who sang a bit of Feeling Good. Harry joked, “Well, thank God Michael Bublé sang. Can you imagine bringing him out here and him saying, ‘You know what? I didn’t come here to sing…’” He also made a lighthearted comment about Whistler’s mayor, calling him “my ginger friend” before asking the crowd, “Are there any other gingers in the house?”
Harry thanked the audience for coming out in the cold to support the athletes. Then, he called Meghan up to join him on stage. As they hugged, Harry joked that Meghan was going to sing, but she quickly laughed and said, “No!” before waving to the crowd and wishing everyone a great time.
During their visit, Harry and Meghan have been spending time with over 500 athletes, having breakfast with Team U.S.A. and taking photos with competitors at different events like wheelchair basketball and curling. One athlete, Leandra Moehring, said they took the time to meet everyone and didn’t mind stopping for pictures, even when their schedule was busy.
At the opening ceremony on February 8, Harry gave a speech about how strong the athletes are. He said, “Invictus didn’t save you. You saved yourself.” He praised them for pushing through tough times and showing true strength.
