Harry and Meghan ‘Didn’t Watch’ King’s Congress Speech
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were reported to have skipped watching King Charles’s address to the US Congress, a moment that drew international attention during the monarch’s visit. The claim, attributed to a royal commentator, adds to ongoing scrutiny of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s relationship with the Royal Family as King Charles continues his public duties abroad.
Express.co.uk reported that royal expert Mr Rob Shuter cited an insider who said the Sussexes “didn’t watch it. Not live, not later, not at all”, describing the decision as evidence that “the distance is no longer symbolic. It is real.”
The report said King Charles delivered the speech to Congress on Tuesday, 28 April, focusing on UK-US relations and receiving a standing ovation, while the Sussexes were not said to have engaged with the address either live or afterwards. The same piece also referenced Prince Harry’s past public comments about wanting reconciliation with his family, alongside his meeting with the King during a UK visit last September.
Questions about the state of contact between father and son have surfaced repeatedly in recent months, including previous Britpop News reporting that King Charles reportedly skipped a visit to Prince Harry during his US trip.
Neither Prince Harry nor Meghan has publicly commented on whether they watched the speech, but the renewed focus underlines how even routine royal milestones can become flashpoints in the wider conversation about family ties and the Sussexes’ role outside the working monarchy.
