Former Black Sabbath drummer Vinny Appice revealed why he turned down an offer from Sharon Osbourne to play with Ozzy Osbourne in a new Jamieson Show interview.
“Never. The only time I asked him for advice really was back in 1980, right before I joined Sabbath. I got a call from Sharon Osborne.
“And she said, ‘We’re going to put a band together around Ozzy. Ozzy’s in England and we want to fly to England, we heard about you, and hang out with Ozzy and see how it goes.’ So I went, ‘Oh, OK…’
“I was very young at that point, never been overseas, so I called Carmine and I said, ‘Hey man, I got this offer to go play with Ozzy. Is he crazy or was he nuts?’
“Carmine told me he was pretty crazy and he was pretty nuts. So it made me think, ‘I don’t know if I’m gonna do this…’ So I didn’t do it.
“I told her I was busy and I couldn’t do it. And a couple of years later he’s [Carmine] playing with him…”
That’s why he told you Ozzy was crazy – you don’t want to play with him, he wanted the job.
“I don’t ask him for advice anymore.” Ultimate-Guitar transcribed his comments.
