The Cure’s frontman Robert Smith has revealed that the band has another album nearly finished, with a third one in the works as well. The long-awaited 14th album, Songs Of A Lost World, is set to be released on November 1, marking their first album since 2008’s 4:13 Dream. Smith shared in 2020 that they were working on two new albums and an hour of noise and The Cure also teased when they’d a final tour.
In an interview, Smith discussed how the plan was initially to release an album for the band’s 40th anniversary, but it didn’t feel right at the time. The anniversary celebrations in 2018 gave him time to reflect on why they would make a new album. The process became more artistic and natural, without the pressure of marking an occasion.
Smith also explained that they recorded around 25 to 26 songs in 2019, with the goal of completing three albums. While Songs Of A Lost World is ready, the second album is nearly finished, and the third one is proving to be more challenging. Smith hinted that he hopes to release these albums in the near future.
This update comes after the release of recent singles like “Alone” and “A Fragile Thing,” and Smith’s critique of dynamic ticket pricing, which he called “a scam driven by greed.”
NME’s five-star review of Songs Of A Lost World described it as one of Smith’s most personal albums, blending darkness with heart and emotion. While fans can look forward to more music from The Cure, this album is already being praised as worth the wait.
