The Crown star Emma Corrin has opened up about meeting Harry Styles for the first time ahead of filming My Policeman, saying they were “scared sh*tless”. Corrin and Dawson explained how director Michael Grandage came up with a unique way for the actors to break the ice.
In the film, Styles, Corrin and Dawson star in a scene where they get drunk at a pub and sing a song, so the director had the actors meet before filming at a recording studio to sing together.
According to Corrin and Dawson, the stars were “scared sh*tless” about singing with Styles as singing is what the former One Direction singer Harry is famous for, but Dawson said it was a “clever” introduction as Dawson said: “The first time the three of us got together, we were thrown into a sound booth. We got around the piano and we had to sing for each other, and that was a really clever way of breaking the ice.”
In My Policeman, Harry Styles takes on the role of a closeted gay policeman who struggles to sustain his marriage to Corrin while also having an affair with Dawson’s character – which was illegal at the time.
The film is set in the 1950s and 1990s, Dawson, Corrin and Styles play the younger counterparts to their older selves who feature in the 1990s scenes.
Talking of acting in their groups of three, Corrin said: “We were really lucky because we had about three weeks of rehearsal before we started shooting, which is incredibly rare, and we rehearsed as groups of three, I think mainly because of COVID, actually, but I wonder how it would have been different if we rehearsed as six.”
It seems like those in charge of the film did a great job with making everyone feel at home.
