Foo Fighters performed at Wembley
Foo Fighters performed for a couple of hours at Wembley Stadium for a special tribute show for the late band drummer Taylor Hawkins last night. The whole line-up for the show had been leaked early, featuring a reunion of Dave Grohl’s Them Crooked Vultures. While performing 1997 hit ‘Monkey Wrench’, Grohl messed up the performance of the song as he seemingly forgot the lyrics to part of the song.
Taylor Hawkins tragically passed away in Bogotá, Colombia on March 25. He was 50 years old. On Saturday, September 3, together with the drummer’s family, Foo Fighters celebrated Hawkins’ memory and music at a special gig in London. ‘The Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concerts’ also take over LA’s Kia Forum on September 27.
The huge line-up for London gig was completed recently with Metallica‘s Lars Ulrich, Blink-182‘s Travis Barker, AC/DC vocalist Brian Johnson, Kesha and Dave Grohl‘s daughter Violet.
They were joined by a huge first wave of acts for the London show which included Liam Gallagher and Mark Ronson, alongside Queens Of The Stone Age‘s Josh Homme, Supergrass, Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor, Wolfgang Van Halen, The Pretenders‘ Chrissie Hynde and many more.
Grohl even broke down in tears at the start of the song Times Like These. He paused to weep as he sang a stripped-back version without instrumental backing. Grohl then launched into an emphatic performance as the band played their hits Pretender, My Hero, and Everlong.
Shane Hawkins, the 16-year-old son of late Taylor Hawkins was also seen behind the drums. He played ‘My Hero’ along with the band, with Grohl turning at one point to watch his former bandmate’s son play.
