Bedding firm drops Swift Home trademark bid
A home goods company has withdrawn its bid to trademark the name “Swift Home” for a line of bedding products after Taylor Swift’s representatives filed an objection with the US Patent and Trademark Office, arguing the branding could confuse customers.
BBC reported that Cathay Home pulled its application over the weekend, with a company representative saying the contested mark was not “essential to its business” following the singer’s appeal.
According to the report, Swift’s team filed a notice on 11 February asking the US government to block the trademark, saying Cathay Home’s styling of the word “Swift” in cursive closely resembled Swift’s own trademarked design and could create a “false association” suggesting endorsement.
Swift has pursued extensive trademark protection around her name and branding, with the BBC noting she has filed more than 300 trademarks in the US and other jurisdictions covering items including music-related products, clothing and bedding, as well as album titles and certain lyrics.
Cathay Home’s lawyer, Ms Ting Geng of Geng and Associates, said in a statement that dropping the application followed an evaluation of the circumstances and described the decision as commercially sensible. The withdrawal ends the latest dispute over the “Swift Home” name, which the firm had applied to register for bedding items in late 2025.
