Princess Kate visits The Christie cancer centre
Princess Kate made a solo visit to The Christie cancer centre in Manchester on Thursday, meeting patients and staff as the specialist NHS site marked its work supporting people through treatment and recovery. The engagement, which included time in treatment areas and wellbeing spaces, underlined the Princess of Wales’s ongoing focus on cancer care following her own diagnosis and treatment in 2024.
During the visit, Hello Magazine reported that Kate joined a patient as they “rang the bell”, a moment that signals the end of cancer treatment at the centre.
Kensington Palace images showed the Princess arriving in a blue dress and greeting staff and patients. She visited the Oak Road Treatment Centre to hear how patients use complementary therapies alongside medical care, and she spent time in an art therapy room during a session attended by people currently in treatment and others in recovery.
The visit also saw the Princess meet resident gardener Mr Phil Walker in the hospital’s wellbeing garden before heading to the Teenage and Young Adult Ward, where she spoke with teenage patients in a unit that includes facilities such as a music studio, gym and social hub. The engagement follows recent royal appearances linked to cancer causes, including Princess Kate’s attendance with King Charles at a Cancer Research UK event in London.
Kate previously revealed her cancer was discovered during abdominal surgery in 2024 and said she completed chemotherapy later that year. Her Manchester engagement adds to a gradual return to public duties, with a focus on the patient experience and the support services available during and after treatment.
