Book Claims Harry–William Fight Was ‘Overblown’
Prince Harry’s account of a physical altercation with Prince William has been challenged in a new book, which claims the disagreement did not become violent. The claim revisits a key passage from the Duke of Sussex’s memoir Spare, in which he alleged his brother knocked him to the floor during a confrontation at Nottingham Cottage in 2019.
Hello Magazine reported that royal editor Mr Russell Myers, writing in William And Catherine: The Inside Story, quoted sources close to the Prince of Wales who insist Prince Harry’s recollection was “massively overblown” and that Prince William is “adamant there was no physical violence”.
According to the reporting, the meeting in early 2019 was arranged so Prince William could question his younger brother directly about Meghan Markle’s behaviour towards palace staff. Mr Myers wrote that while Prince William’s own account “has never been heard”, those close to him dispute the seriousness of the incident as described by Prince Harry, and one source is cited as calling the presentation of the argument a “cheap shot”.
The latest claims emerge against the backdrop of the brothers’ continuing estrangement, with Britpop News previously reporting on discussions of reconciliation when Prince William was reportedly “clearing the air” with Meghan and Harry in earlier attempts to address tensions.
Prince Harry and Prince William are believed to have last been in the same room at the funeral of their uncle, Lord Fellowes, in 2024, though they were reported not to have spoken or sat near one another. The renewed attention on the 2019 row is likely to keep questions about their relationship, and the public fallout from recent books and interviews, in the headlines.
