Prince Harry faces fresh security setback in UK
Prince Harry could face another setback in his attempt to regain taxpayer-funded police protection when visiting the UK, amid claims that senior officials are concerned about the political fallout of restoring the security arrangement.
Daily Star reported that government figures are wary of public anger over the potential multi-million-pound cost of providing top-tier police protection for the Duke of Sussex, Meghan, and their children during trips to Britain.
The report says the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec), which oversees protective security decisions, is “completely split” on the issue, with an unnamed Home Office source describing tension between political concerns and assessments from police and security chiefs about the level of risk.
Harry’s police protection was reduced after he and Meghan stepped back as working royals in 2020, and he has argued it is unsafe to bring his family to the UK without guaranteed security. The latest claims follow previous reporting that the Home Office ‘blocked’ a bid to fund Prince Harry security as the dispute continues through legal and government channels.
A UK government spokesperson reiterated that protective security arrangements are “rigorous and proportionate” and said it is long-standing policy not to provide detailed information about individual cases.
