Prince Harry and Meghan Face Montecito Downsize Rumours
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing fresh claims in the US that they could eventually have to move from their Montecito property, amid questions over the long-term cost of maintaining the estate. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex bought the sprawling home after stepping back from royal duties in 2020 and have lived there with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The Daily Express reported that US commentator Ms Maureen Callahan told the “Royals Uncensored” podcast she had heard stories suggesting the couple “may need to downsize” from their $14 million Montecito mansion, claiming they are having “a lot of trouble monetising” what she described as their connection to the Royal Family.
Ms Callahan, an American podcast host and columnist for the Daily Mail, said on the programme that she believed the “information supply has been choked off” and argued this had affected the Sussexes’ ability to capitalise on the royal link that helped fuel earlier projects following their departure from the UK.
The claims come as Meghan continues to pursue commercial ventures in the US, including her lifestyle brand, and after varied media efforts since 2020 that have included streaming and audio projects; in recent weeks, the Duchess has also shared glimpses of domestic life, including a candle ritual at her Montecito home.
Neither Prince Harry nor Meghan has commented publicly on any plans to move, and the Daily Express said a representative had been contacted for comment. For now, the suggestion remains a commentator’s claim rather than a confirmed change, but it adds to ongoing scrutiny of how the Sussexes sustain their California lifestyle in the years ahead.
