Prince Archie’s former nanny recalls being hugged by Prince Harry at Frogmore Cottage interview
A former nanny who worked for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle when they lived at Frogmore Cottage has spoken about her first meeting with the couple, describing an unexpectedly informal welcome from the Duke of Sussex. Lorren Khumalo, a paediatric nurse and consultant who helped care for baby Archie, said the experience challenged her expectations of royal formality.
Arriving at the Windsor home for an interview meeting, Ms Khumalo said she anticipated a highly formal introduction but was surprised by the Duke’s relaxed appearance and greeting; The Mirror reported that he opened his arms, said “Hello Lorren!” and gave her a hug.
Speaking on an episode of The Breakfast Club with Zenzele Ndebele, Ms Khumalo said she had worried about how to dress and whether she should curtsy, adding that the Duke was barefoot in jeans and a T-shirt because it was hot. She also recalled being struck by Meghan’s friendliness and said the atmosphere felt like a “normal home” rather than the formal setting she had expected.
Ms Khumalo has previously appeared in the Sussexes’ Netflix docuseries, where she described the couple as hands-on parents and outlined a routine in which both parents would spend time with Archie in the morning before she took over for walks. Wider tensions within the royal family continue to draw attention, with recent reporting that Prince William and Prince Harry reportedly “have no trust” as discussions about reconciliation persist.
The latest comments add to occasional first-hand accounts from staff who worked closely with the Duke and Duchess during their final months as working royals in the UK, offering further detail about how the couple ran their household at Frogmore before relocating to the United States.
