William and Kate Issue Statement After Golders Green Stabbings
Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, have issued a statement after two Jewish men were attacked in Golders Green, with Kensington Palace saying the couple are “concerned” as the incident was later treated as terrorism by police.
Hello Magazine reported that a Kensington Palace spokesperson said the Prince and Princess of Wales were following the situation closely, were concerned about attacks upon the Jewish community, and had the victims “in their thoughts” while wishing them a speedy recovery.
The attack took place on 29 April and left two men, one in his 30s and the other in his 70s, injured and taken to hospital. The suspect was detained by volunteers at the scene before being arrested by police, and later attempted to stab the arresting officers, according to the report.
King Charles, who is on a state visit to the United States, was also said to be deeply concerned, and the developments come as the wider family marked major diary dates including the Waleses’ 15th wedding anniversary. Separate BritpopNews reporting has noted Prince William’s public focus during high-profile royal travel, including when he was reportedly ‘concerned’ over the King’s US trip earlier in the visit.
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley was quoted as saying the suspect had a “history of serious violence and mental health issues”. The incident was reported amid a broader spate of attacks in London targeting the Jewish community, including an arson attack in March on volunteer ambulances run by the charity Hatzola.
