Prince William ‘Concerned’ Over King’s US Trip
Prince William is said to be concerned about King Charles’s wellbeing ahead of a four-day US state visit, with claims he urged his father to scale back commitments. The trip, set to begin on Monday, April 27, is expected to include stops in Washington DC, New York City and Virginia before the King travels on to Bermuda.
Irish Star reported that royal expert Mr Ian Pelham Turner claimed Prince William opposed the King and Queen’s decision to travel to America for 250th anniversary celebrations, but was allegedly overruled by Queen Camilla, who was said to believe that showing vulnerability would be a mistake.
The report said the Prince of Wales has not issued an official statement about the visit, which the expert suggested could indicate disapproval. It also noted that King Charles, who disclosed a cancer diagnosis in early 2024, has said his treatment would be scaled back in 2026 after a positive response, though the broadcaster argued the schedule remains physically demanding.
Commenting on the potential diplomatic significance, the article quoted Ms Pauline Maclaran, co-author of Royal Fever, saying the visit could help smooth relations between President Donald Trump and the UK by underscoring the prestige of a royal engagement. The claims come amid wider reporting about the Prince of Wales taking on more responsibility, including a recent suggestion that he has intervened in discussions involving the Duke of York and the King.
Buckingham Palace was contacted for comment, according to the report. The King is expected to deliver remarks to a joint session of Congress and attend a White House state dinner during the visit, with the Bermuda engagement described as his first official trip to the territory as sovereign.
