In a sonic collision that defies expectations, Mantra of the Cosmos, the remarkable British supergroup composed of influential artists from the past three decades, has unleashed their debut single upon the world and fans are here for it.
As reported by NME, Featuring the distinctive talents of Shaun Ryder (Happy Mondays, Black Grape), Zak Starkey (The Who, Oasis), Andy Bell (Oasis, Ride), and Bez (Happy Mondays, Black Grape), their inaugural track, aptly titled ‘Gorilla Guerilla,’ has been heralded as “a fantastic psychedelic groove from a band of misfits, outsiders, and innovators” by Starkey himself.
Accompanied by a vibrant and mind-altering music video directed by Ryder’s son, Olli Ryder, ‘Gorilla Guerilla’ made its first appearance at an intimate performance held at London’s renowned club, The Box. This extraordinary ensemble came to life through Starkey’s vision, with Ryder taking the helm on vocals, Bell on guitar, and Bez and Starkey providing the hypnotic percussion. Speaking about the project, Bell expressed his delight in being part of Mantra of the Cosmos, highlighting the shared passion for the same music among the four like-minded souls.
While the musical roots of the group members’ past endeavors are undoubtedly present, Ryder has emphasized that Mantra of the Cosmos ventures into uncharted territories, creating a sound distinct from anything they have previously released. “It doesn’t sound like the Mondays or Black Grape or Oasis or The Who; it’s what we’re doing all together,” Ryder stated, hinting at an album in progress.
Described as “a dubby, electronic, 21st-century Hawkwind of a band destined to be experienced through epic live performances,” Mantra of the Cosmos promises to be a force to be reckoned with. Their captivating fusion of genres invites listeners into an otherworldly sonic realm, where traditional boundaries are shattered and new dimensions are discovered. As they prepare to grace the esteemed Glade area at the Glastonbury Festival on Sunday, June 25, at 8:20 pm, one can only imagine the transformative journey they will take their audience on.
Happy Mondays, the iconic Manchester band, are set to ignite stages across the UK with a series of live events. Among these is their eagerly anticipated performance at Sheffield’s Rock N Roll Circus 2023, where they will share the spotlight with Noel Gallagher, The Cribs, and other esteemed acts. Taking place on September 1st at the Don Valley Bowl, this event promises to be a testament to the enduring legacy of Happy Mondays and the continued vitality of their live performances.
Noel has been in the news a lot lately for the beef with him and his brother, Liam Gallagher, certainly, Liam won’t show, but will Noel take a moment and address all the Liam vs Noel talk that has been endless? Will we hear about an Oasis reunion as well?
