PR Expert: Meghan Scone Post ‘Strategic’
Meghan Markle has faced fresh scrutiny over her social media timing after a PR expert suggested a recent post about scones was not accidental, as talk continues about whether the Duchess of Sussex could ever return to the UK. The claim comes amid reports that the Sussexes’ US-based commercial plans have shifted following changes to their Netflix deal.
According to Express.co.uk, PR specialist Mr Chad Teixeira said the timing of Meghan’s scone recipe — posted a day after Prince William discussed his preferred order of clotted cream and jam during an interview on Amanda Holden’s Heart FM show — immediately invited comparison and online discussion.
Mr Teixeira told the outlet that “there’s really no such thing as accidental timing with Meghan Markle anymore”, adding that posts are likely “heavily curated”, particularly when they touch on “something emotionally British or linked to the Royal Family”. He argued that while the post may not have been a major stunt, it amounted to “strategic soft positioning” because Meghan understands what is likely to be picked up online.
He also said scones and afternoon tea sit firmly within traditional British identity, suggesting nostalgic food content can be a low-risk way to reconnect with UK audiences without addressing controversy directly. The renewed focus on how Meghan’s content is perceived comes as royal watchers continue to debate family dynamics, including Princess Kate’s reported ‘deal breaker’ with Prince Harry in discussions about any future reconciliation.
Meghan and Prince Harry have previously signalled that their lives are centred in California, but speculation about UK visits persists. The latest commentary underlines how even lifestyle posts can be interpreted through a royal lens, influencing public perceptions of the Duchess’s relationship with Britain and the Royal Family.
