Meghan Markle Still Estranged From Thomas Markle
Meghan Markle remains estranged from her father, Mr Thomas Markle, with a new report claiming the Duchess of Sussex is unlikely to reunite with him despite recent contact following a serious health scare.
Express reported that Meghan and her father have been separated for around seven years, but are said to have exchanged communication at the end of last year after Mr Markle underwent a life-saving leg amputation while in hospital in the Philippines, with the Duchess understood to have sent him a handwritten letter during his recovery.
The report said Mr Markle has since returned to the United States to continue medical treatment and has expressed a desire to meet Meghan, as well as Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. However, royal commentator Mr Hugo Vickers told GB News that a reunion is thought to be unlikely and suggested Mr Markle may feel deeply disappointed about how the family situation has unfolded.
In comments cited in the report, Mr Vickers said he believed Meghan may have been “nervous” about her father meeting the Duke of Sussex, adding that Harry had reportedly never met his father-in-law before relations deteriorated ahead of the couple’s wedding. He also claimed it had been suggested to him by a member of Prince Harry’s family that the Duchess might have worried about what her father could say.
The claims come amid continuing scrutiny of the Sussexes’ relationship with relatives on both sides of the family, with public appearances and future travel continuing to draw attention to how and whether personal rifts might be addressed.
