Report Alleges Meghan Markle Urged Hospital Visit ‘Quick’
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are facing renewed scrutiny in Australia after a report claimed the Duchess of Sussex told staff to keep a hospital visit brief before meeting seriously ill children in Melbourne. The allegation centres on the couple’s appearance at the Royal Children’s Hospital on 14 April during their four-day trip, an engagement that drew both praise and criticism online.
The Mercury News reported that broadcaster and podcaster Mr. Dan Wootton alleged Meghan said “Let’s make this quick,” citing a hospital source, before she and Prince Harry entered the foyer where families and young patients were gathered.
The Mercury News said the hospital stop was framed by some as a morale-boosting visit for children with cancer and other life-threatening conditions, but by others as a publicity opportunity. The outlet also reported that 12-year-old patient Novalie Morris told People she gave Prince Harry flowers and that he told her to “keep on being brave,” adding that the encounter “cheered” her up.
Criticism of the Melbourne appearance comes amid wider commentary about the Sussexes’ engagements on the trip, including claims they were accused of acting like royal “heirs” in Australia despite stepping back from official duties.
The Mercury News further reported claims raised by NewsNation correspondent Ms. Paula Froelich, who said some children were brought from their beds to the foyer and that concerns were voiced about masking and hygiene during interactions. The outlet also described how the Duchess’s outfit was highlighted in coverage, amid reporting that items she wore were made available for purchase via a fashion website in which she is said to be an investor.
