Two of the suspects involved in the investigation into Liam Payne’s death have reportedly chosen not to testify when questioned by the judge. Braian Nahuel Paiz and a former hotel worker exercised their right to remain silent during video interviews on December 17, according to Argentine media. Unfortunately, Payne’s sister couldn’t save him either.
These two men, along with three others, are expected to find out early next year if they will face prosecution over the 31-year-old One Direction star’s death in October. Judge Laura Bruniard has 10 days after questioning the suspects to decide if the case should proceed or be closed.
Paiz, an Argentinian waiter, appeared on TV last month and denied supplying Payne with drugs or accepting money from him. He claimed that he met Payne at his hotel twice before Payne fell to his death from a third-floor balcony on October 16. Paiz stated that their meeting was innocent, and Payne had come down to meet him after he got lost.
The other man involved has not publicly commented. The questioning of the remaining three suspects is scheduled for December 19.
Payne was found dead after emergency services were called to a hotel where he was reported to be acting aggressively, possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Toxicology reports revealed multiple substances in his system at the time of his death.
Three individuals have been charged with crimes, including abandonment of a person leading to death, and supplying narcotics. One person close to Payne was charged with abandonment, while a hotel employee is accused of providing cocaine, and another is accused of supplying drugs to the singer.
Payne’s funeral took place on November 20, attended by his former One Direction bandmates and other close friends and family.
