King Charles Meets David Beckham at Chelsea Flower Show
King Charles and Queen Camilla toured the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in London on Monday, where the monarch met Sir David Beckham during a walkabout that included a visit to the King’s Foundation Curious Garden.
During their annual visit, the King toured the garden he collaborated on with Beckham and TV gardener Mr Alan Titchmarsh, and paused to smell a rose display featuring varieties named after all three men, KentOnline reported.
Beckham was seen wearing the white rose named in his honour in his buttonhole, with the report noting that the bloom was launched at this year’s show after his daughter Harper commissioned it for his 50th birthday. The King also greeted Dame Judi Dench with a kiss on both cheeks during the visit, and was shown a “scents and sensors” exhibit where a cocker spaniel named Zinc demonstrated a trained ability to locate an object by smell.
The former footballer has remained a high-profile figure in public life, with previous coverage noting his reported business milestones away from the pitch as his post-playing career expands.
The Chelsea visit again underscored the King’s public commitment to nature and gardening through the work of the King’s Foundation, while the Beckham collaboration placed a celebrity spotlight on a showpiece garden aimed at encouraging people to get curious about growing and the natural world.
