King Charles has been criticized for not mentioning his son, Prince Harry, his wife Meghan Markle, or their children in his Christmas speech. The speech focused on how the holiday is a time for family and friends to come together, but there was no mention of Harry’s family. Instead, Charles talked about protecting the environment for future generations, without mentioning his grandchildren. The speech showed pictures of Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their children, but Harry’s family was left out. Harry and Markle also alleged a police cover-up recently as well.
This omission was noticed on social media, though the British media didn’t give it much attention. It is reported that Charles wants to make peace with Harry, but Prince William is against it because of Harry’s past actions, like writing about family issues in his books. Charles also feels he can’t leave Harry a settlement that William wouldn’t accept because of his health concerns.
In Norway, the royal family has also been dealing with challenges in 2024. Crown Prince Haakon’s stepson, Marius Borg Hoiby, has been arrested multiple times for assault and other charges. His mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, said it’s been a tough year for the family, and they’ve been getting professional help.
King Harald, the oldest king in Europe, also spoke about the situation, saying it’s hard to see a loved one go through such struggles. Public support for the Norwegian royal family has dropped, partly because of the controversy over Crown Prince Haakon’s sister’s marriage to shaman Durek Verrett. Also, King Harald is getting older and frailer, which has added to the family’s challenges.
