King Charles and Prince Edward Share Rare Embrace
King Charles and Prince Edward were shown sharing a warm brotherly moment during a recent family gathering honouring Queen Elizabeth II, in a reminder of the King’s close ties with his youngest sibling. The brief exchange, caught on camera at the British Museum in April, is described as an interaction royal fans do not often see between the two senior royals.
HELLO Magazine reported that, as the royal family observed memorial plans for the late Queen, the monarch placed a hand on Prince Edward’s shoulder before the brothers exchanged cheek kisses, after Charles greeted the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and the Duchess of Edinburgh.
The report also noted that King Charles and the Duke of Edinburgh have not always had an easy relationship, pointing to a claimed flashpoint in 2001 involving Prince Edward’s former production company and the privacy of Prince William while he was studying. Royal author Mr Robert Jobson was quoted as saying Charles went “ballistic” over the incident.
HELLO added that the brothers have since moved past those tensions, with Prince Edward supporting the King at his coronation in a moment shown in a BBC documentary, when the Duke of Edinburgh embraced his brother and told him: “I know you’ve got it”. The affectionate clip was described as an unseen display of encouragement.
The renewed focus on family appearances comes amid a busy public schedule for the monarch, who was recently pictured at another high-profile engagement when he hosted the season’s final Buckingham Palace garden party.
The latest footage offers a rare glimpse of the personal dynamics behind the monarchy’s public-facing events, as Charles continues to carry out a full programme of duties alongside working members of the royal family.
