King Charles Hosts Final Palace Garden Party
King Charles made a rare solo appearance at Buckingham Palace on Thursday as he hosted the final royal garden party of the season, while the Princess of Wales concluded her two-day visit to Italy focused on early childhood development. The engagements underscored the royal family’s split schedule, with the King carrying out duties in London as Princess Kate wrapped up a landmark overseas trip.
In its live coverage from 14 May, HELLO Magazine reported that King Charles attended the season’s final Buckingham Palace garden party and was photographed greeting guests including Dame Helen Mirren.
In Italy, the Princess of Wales ended her visit with a farewell gathering at Agriturismo Al Vigneto, where she thanked local representatives involved in the programme and remarked on the setting, saying: “It’s so beautiful here. Thank you for having me. It’s a wonderful view.” The lunch was initially set outdoors before moving inside because of the weather, according to the same report.
The day also included a hands-on food moment for the Princess, who tried rolling fresh pasta and making traditional tortelli with chef Ivan Lampredi. He was quoted as telling her “You are hired,” and later said she was “a natural Rezdora,” the local term for a matriarch skilled at preparing pasta by hand.
The appearances come as the King continues a busy run of public duties, amid ongoing attention on his wider family relationships, including reports that Prince William has been asked to help with efforts to reconcile with Prince Harry.
The garden party and Italy engagements mark two very different strands of the monarchy’s public work: ceremonial hosting in London and overseas visits tied to long-term initiatives, with further royal diary events expected in the coming days.
