King Charles ‘regrets’ rift with Prince Harry, experts say
King Charles has been described by royal commentators as feeling regret over the ongoing rift with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, with renewed attention on the family divide as Prince Archie marks his seventh birthday.
In a video report published on Thursday, Yahoo News said royal commentator Mr Duncan Larcombe claimed the King values being a grandfather and feels regret about the situation, amid reports that Archie and Princess Lilibet have not seen Charles since the Sussexes’ UK visit for the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.
Yahoo also quoted royal commentator Mr Richard Palmer as saying that a recent US state visit did not include a meeting between the King and the Duke of Sussex, and suggested that may have been upsetting for the monarch. The report added that Palmer recalled Charles being “thrilled” to see his grandchildren during Jubilee events, but said ties have since faced setbacks.
The distance between the Sussexes and the Royal Family has been a recurring theme in coverage of the monarchy, including claims that Prince Harry has been weighing up whether to visit King Charles amid continuing tensions.
Neither Buckingham Palace nor representatives for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex commented in the Yahoo report, and no timeline was given for a possible reconciliation or future family meeting.
