Harry Styles took his Adidas shoes off Monday (Oct. 24), and many of his fans believe he was protesting the footwear brand’s association with the artist formerly known as Kanye West. West made some comments that didn’t sit well with people from the fraternity and the company.
Styles took the stage at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on Monday night, dressed in his usual full-body Gucci ensemble — with one exception. The 28-year-old pop star wore red Vans instead of his usual Adidas x Gucci Gazelles, which he’s worn for every show of his Love on Tour since June, according to People.
Adidas had to release a statement after what was said, and as it’s not appropriate, we don’t want to post that content here. We do share with you the company’s standpoint on the situation which is clear that it doesn’t support Kanye West’s remarks.
Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech. Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness.
Styles’ fans were quick to notice the change, which coincided with a surge in public demand that Adidas end its long-standing partnership with West, now known as Ye, following the rapper’s recent antisemitic comments. Adidas had not yet confirmed its decision at the time of the concert; however, one day later, the company announced that it would be officially parting ways with Ye after years of working together on the “Donda” artist’s blockbuster Yeezy shoe line.
What do you think will be the change for Kanye West after this move? Sound off in the comments.
