Music legend Elton John is sharing a personal update about his struggles with vision loss. The iconic singer revealed that a serious infection months ago left him unable to see out of his right eye, making it harder for him to create music. “I haven’t been able to properly see for 4 months, especially since my left eye already wasn’t ‘the greatest,’” Elton said. He explained that his vision problems are a big obstacle to recording new songs. “I can do something like this, but going into the studio and recording—I don’t know. Because I can’t see a lyric, for a start.”
While the situation has been tough, Elton remains hopeful. Doctors have given him encouragement that his vision might improve over time. Still, the experience has been difficult. “I am kind of stuck at the moment… I can’t see anything. I can’t read anything. I can’t watch anything,” he admitted.
Despite these challenges, Elton says he feels incredibly lucky. Reflecting on his life, he expressed gratitude for his family, including his sons, Zachary and Elijah. Elton retired from touring in 2023 to focus on spending time with them as they grow up.
