Elton John is one of Great Britain’s most legendary rock stars. He is also one of the best-selling artists of all time, having sold over 300 million records worldwide in a six-decade career in music. He has more than fifty Top 40 hits in the UK Singles Chart and US Billboard Hot 100, including nine number ones in the UK and US, as well as seven consecutive number-one albums in the United States.
John has also been considered music royalty for a reason. Queen Elizabeth II knighted himritable services in 1998. At the same time, French President Emmanuel Macron presented John with France’s highest civilian award. There certainly have been a lot of high points in John’s long career and that is putting it as mildly as it comes.
John is currently married to David Furnish who he met in 1993 and the couple has two sons together. It is being reported by the outlet Hello Magazine that the couple paid tribute to a good friend that passed away over the weekend. That friend was Lily Safra, a socialite, philanthropist, and billionaire who was married to a wealthy banker, Edmond Safra. She passed away on July 9th in Geneva, Switzerland at the age of 87.
Currently, John is embarking on his final concert tour. John initially announced his intentions from touring back in the winter of 2018 with the first concert taking place in Allentown, Pennsylvania. John would cite the reason for spending time with his children as the primary factor for his retirement.
Furnish would comment on her death stating the following on social media via Instagram stating the following:
Elton and I are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our great friend Lily Safra. Lily was an extraordinary lady, Mother, Grandmother and friend. Her generosity was boundless. Her philanthropic legacy, along with her dear and devoted late husband Edmond, is magnificent. We are eternally grateful for her munificent contributions to helping us build an AIDS free world. She gave so graciously to the Elton John AIDS foundation
Lily was also a lady of the most elegant and refined style. She had an exceptional and tasteful eye for beauty in all its forms. We will miss you greatly, dear Lily. You taught us all how to live with joy and lead with our hearts. Our love and prayers go out to all your family.”
