Donald Trump Rebuts Prince Harry’s UK Claim
Donald Trump has responded to Prince Harry after the Duke of Sussex urged the United States to show “leadership” over the war in Ukraine, remarks made during a surprise visit to Kyiv on Thursday. The US President’s comments come days before King Charles is due to travel to the United States for a state visit, keeping the spotlight on the relationship between Washington and the Royal Family.
In an Oval Office exchange with reporters, GB News reported that Mr Trump said “Prince Harry is not speaking for the UK” and added that he believed he spoke for the UK “more than Prince Harry”.
The GB News report said Prince Harry made his comments at the Kyiv Security Forum, where he argued the US had a “singular role” because it had vowed to protect Ukraine’s borders and sovereignty. The duke was quoted describing the situation as “a moment for American leadership” and calling for the US to honour treaty obligations as part of global security and strategic stability.
Mr Trump’s remarks arrive shortly before the King’s visit, and Britpop News previously reported claims that the President had made a special King Charles announcement ahead of the trip.
While the US President also spoke warmly about the King during the same exchange, the latest comments underline how Prince Harry’s public interventions can quickly become entangled in political debate, particularly when major diplomatic engagements involving the monarch are imminent.
