David Beckham set for Hollywood Walk of Fame star
Mr David Beckham is set to be honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next week, with his wife Victoria Beckham expected to play a prominent part in the ceremony in Los Angeles. The former England captain, 51, is due to receive the 2,849th star on the famous boulevard, marking his recognition in the Sports Entertainment category.
The Sun reported that Mrs Victoria Beckham is expected to speak at the event alongside actor Mr Tom Cruise, with the ceremony slated for June 11.
The Walk of Fame’s producer, Ana Martinez, said in a statement that the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce was “proud to welcome” Beckham, calling the timing “fitting” as the United States prepares to host the FIFA World Cup. She added that Beckham’s impact in raising football’s profile in America, and his influence across sport, entertainment and global culture, made the honour “especially meaningful”.
The recognition comes months after Beckham was knighted by King Charles at Windsor Castle, an engagement previously noted when King Charles met David Beckham at the Chelsea Flower Show. The Sun report also said it is not yet known whether the couple’s children and their partners will attend the Los Angeles ceremony.
Beckham and Mrs Victoria Beckham were recently listed on The Sunday Times Rich List, with the report citing business ventures including her fashion brand and their production company. The Hollywood event is expected to be the latest high-profile milestone for the couple as Beckham’s career continues to span sport and entertainment.
