At a Next on Netflix event in Los Angeles, John Mulaney took a playful jab at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix projects. While promoting his upcoming talk show Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney, Mulaney quipped that Netflix had given him money without a specific plan, much like they did for the royal couple. He jokingly added, “Not since Harry and Meghan has Netflix given more money to someone without a specific plan.” Meghan Markle visited victims of the Los Angeles fire recently.
Mulaney’s comments were a nod to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s $100 million deal with Netflix, which they signed in 2020. Despite the deal, their projects, such as the 2022 docuseries Harry & Meghan and their cancelled animated series Pearl, have faced mixed reactions, leaving the couple under pressure to deliver more successful content.
Mulaney, however, expressed excitement about his own show, teasing that it would feature a wide variety of guests, from Arnold Schwarzenegger to a family therapist, with music by Mannequin Pussy. His Netflix live show will premiere on March 12.
While Mulaney had fun with the royal couple’s struggles, Meghan Markle is gearing up for the launch of her own Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, set to premiere on March 4. The show will focus on lifestyle topics like gardening, cooking, and hosting.
