Britney Spears Calls DUI Video Release ‘Cruel’
Britney Spears is reportedly struggling with renewed scrutiny after dashcam footage and fresh details emerged from the night of her March 4 DUI arrest. The singer is said to feel humiliated by the public release of the videos as she tries to move on following a short rehab stay and a subsequent plea deal.
A source told Us Weekly that Spears is “embarrassed” by the footage and believes it is “cruel”, describing the incident as one of the most “traumatic” and “regretful” nights of her life. The source said she wants to put the episode behind her after seeking treatment and attempting to make amends.
According to reports, Spears was arrested after multiple 911 calls alleged she was driving erratically. The arrest report said she told officers she was taking prescription medications, including a mood stabiliser, Prozac and Adderall, and she denied drinking alcohol beyond a mimosa earlier in the day despite officers claiming they smelled alcohol.
At a May 4 court hearing, Spears pleaded guilty through her attorney Mr Michael A. Goldstein and accepted a “wet reckless” offer, a reduced plea option often used in cases involving low blood-alcohol levels and no crash or injuries. Separate coverage has focused on what was captured in the footage, including details from the DUI report about items allegedly found during the traffic stop.
Spears was again in the spotlight on May 13 following claims she caused a disturbance at the Blue Dog Tavern in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, though her representative said the situation was exaggerated and insisted she was not behaving in a way that endangered other diners. The latest round of attention has prompted renewed concern among fans, even as those close to the singer insist she is focused on moving forward.
