Black Sabbath have been offered to reunite their original lineup as part of Zakk Wylde’s band as a legal loophole. Black Sabbath React To Bill Ward ‘Backlash’ On Last Tour.
Wylde told The Eddie Trunk Podcast, “People are just like, ‘Oh, what’s this Zakk Sabbath thing [Zakk’s Black Sabbath cover band launched in 2014]?’ And I just go, ‘Well, there’s a plan behind the whole thing…’
“The thing is this – Sabbath, they did the farewell tour, and it was billed as The End, so the promoters brought the tour, going, ‘Well, this is going to be the final time, so I have to get this tour.’
“And they got to sign the contract that they will never tour again, so what we did this is – we put this Zakk Sabbath thing, so now it’s going to be Zakk Sabbath, and eventually we’ll get Oz to sing, so it will be Zakk Sabbath featuring Ozzy Osbourne…
“Then, we get Geezer [Butler, bass] in the band, so it’s Zakk Sabbath featuring Ozzy Osbourne and Geezer Buttler…
“Then, we get Tony [Iommi] in the band, and it’s Zakk Sabbath featuring Ozzy, Tony, and Geezer. Then we pull Bill [Ward] into the mix, and then it’s Zakk Sabbath featuring the original Black Sabbath…
“And then they can tour again – you see what I’m saying? It’s extra retirement funds. Let’s say that fellows get a crazy gambling habit or whatever and they end up broke. Then we put together the Zakk Sabbath featuring Black Sabbath tour, and they can tour again.
“They can’t get sued. It’s like Prince – he changed his name, he’s a symbol, you can’t sue him.” Ultimate-Guitar transcribed his comments.
