Matt Helders of Arctic Monkeys has stated that Alex Turner “definitely has a Bond theme in him.” The drummer spoke to NME after the Sheffield band’s seventh studio album, ‘The Car,’ was named our 2022 Album Of The Year, beating out Wet Leg, Beyoncé, and Fontaines D.C.
During the conversation, Helders was asked if the Monkeys had considered writing a James Bond song, given the cinematic, orchestral sound of their latest album. Turner stated in 2011: “I’d love to do a Bond song.” Without a doubt. ” The remark came shortly after the frontman released a soundtrack EP for Richard Ayoade’s 2010 film Submarine.
I’m sure it’s something we would still be interested in, but I don’t think it’s officially been proposed. However, it is almost like Alex is already writing Bond themes, there just ain’t a film that’s been made and is ready [for his songs] yet! But I would say that he’s definitely got a Bond theme in him.
Many fans have suggested that an AM track would fit in nicely with the world of the long-running spy franchise as the band has evolved musically. Billie Eilish, Sam Smith, Adele, Alicia Keys & Jack White, and Chris Cornell are among the artists who have written Bond themes in recent years.
In another new interview with Helders, the drummer discussed the experience of bringing a full orchestra into the studio for ‘The Car.’ The band will begin a stadium tour in the United Kingdom and Ireland in May, followed by a North American leg in September. AM will be in Europe in late April and early May before returning in July for additional shows.
