Frogmore Cottage renovations could be reversed after Sussex departure
Frogmore Cottage, the Windsor property once used by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, is expected to undergo changes that would remove remaining traces of their time there, with the house potentially being split back into two homes after standing empty for years.
The home could return to its earlier layout after the £2.4 million refurbishment carried out ahead of the Sussexes’ move-in is reportedly set to be undone, Daily Mirror reported.
According to the report, Frogmore Cottage was converted from two semi-detached properties into a single larger residence when it was given to the couple by Queen Elizabeth II as a wedding gift in 2018. Prince Harry and Meghan moved in shortly before the birth of their son, Prince Archie, in 2019, but later relocated to North America and stepped back from royal duties.
The Mirror said Prince Harry repaid the refurbishment costs after leaving, and that King Charles removed the Sussexes’ right to use Frogmore in 2023. With the property remaining vacant, one source suggested that removing elements tied to the couple could make it more appealing for use within the royal household, as discussions continue over how the building may be reconfigured.
The move would effectively draw a line under a turbulent chapter for the royal estate, while leaving the Duke and Duchess of Sussex without a UK base unless future arrangements change, including the ongoing debate around security for their family when visiting Britain.
