Meghan Markle criticised over anniversary videos with Harry
Meghan Markle has faced fresh online criticism after sharing a series of intimate home videos and previously unseen wedding photos with Prince Harry to mark the couple’s eighth wedding anniversary on Monday, May 19.
In posts shared to her Instagram Stories, the Duchess of Sussex included clips of Prince Harry bringing an elderflower cake with four candles and presenting a wooden sculpture of two penguins embracing, with Express reporting the gift referenced a time the couple dressed as penguins at a party after their engagement.
The images prompted a wave of reaction on social media, with some commenters describing the videos as “performative” and questioning why the moments were shared publicly. Others criticised the number of anniversary posts, while some supporters praised the couple and described the content as “cute”.
The anniversary content follows Meghan’s earlier social media activity, including releasing a set of photos from the couple’s wedding celebrations, which Britpop News covered when she marked eight years of marriage with unseen wedding images.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex married at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, on May 19, 2018, and have since lived in California. Their social media posts continue to attract strong reactions, reflecting the polarised public response that often follows the couple’s public appearances.
