Trump Hits Back at Prince Harry Comments
President Donald Trump has publicly rebuffed remarks made by Prince Harry after the Duke of Sussex urged the United States to honour its “international treaty obligations” during an appearance at the Kyiv Security Forum in Ukraine. The exchange, highlighted in a new account of their long-running tensions, comes as the pair’s verbal sparring has repeatedly overlapped with major royal and diplomatic moments.
In a White House response, the president said Prince Harry was “not speaking for the UK” and added that he was “speaking for the UK more than Prince Harry”, while also quipping about the Duke’s wife, Meghan Markle, Hello Magazine reported.
The same report traces the feud back years, noting Mr Trump’s past criticism of Meghan, including comments made after she previously described him as “misogynistic” and “divisive” before joining the Royal Family. It also recounts Mr Trump’s remarks in interviews in which he said he was “not a fan” of the Duchess of Sussex and suggested the Duke was being “led around by his nose”.
The Hello account also revisits a late-night television sketch in which Prince Harry joked to host Stephen Colbert that Americans were “obsessed with royalty” and teased that the US had “elected a king”. The wider diplomatic backdrop has continued to draw scrutiny for the Sussexes, with Britpop News previously reporting that Prince Harry was ‘on tenterhooks’ after the King’s US trip.
More recently, the report says Prince Harry issued a statement in January 2026 objecting to Mr Trump’s characterisation of NATO allies’ roles in Afghanistan, citing the sacrifices made by UK service personnel. Mr Trump later posted praise for British troops on Truth Social, as the public back-and-forth between the president and the Duke again played out on the international stage.
