Meghan Markle UK Return Plan Questioned by Columnist
An Express columnist has questioned a reported plan for Meghan Markle to bring gifts for members of the Royal Family during a possible UK trip in June, arguing that reconciliation would require clearer accountability. The commentary follows claims that the Duchess of Sussex could return to Britain to join Prince Harry around an Invictus Games countdown event linked to Birmingham hosting the Games next year.
In the opinion piece, Express reported that commentator Ms Mieka Smiles cited claims from US gossip newsletter Naughty But Nice that Meghan is “going to come armed with a pile of gifts” for Prince Harry’s relatives, including “second and third cousins”.
Ms Smiles argued that gifts would not address underlying tensions and said a “proper reconciliation” would begin with acknowledging what went wrong. She also suggested that any attempt to “bury the hatchet” would need a more direct statement of responsibility from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, including recognising “there’s something to apologise for in the first place”.
The latest claims about outreach come amid continued focus on the couple’s relationship with the Royal Family, with Britpop News previously reporting on suggestions that they are taking “small steps” toward royal reconciliation in separate coverage.
There has been no official confirmation of a June visit, but the column underlines how any prospective return by Meghan, particularly alongside Prince Harry’s Invictus-linked appearances, is likely to be closely scrutinised for signals about whether relations with King Charles and other senior royals are changing.
