King Charles ‘Nervous’ to Speak as Harry Visit Skipped
King Charles did not meet Prince Harry during his state visit to the United States this week, despite speculation that father and son might see each other while the monarch was in the country with Queen Camilla. The King, who began the visit on Monday, is now spending the next few days in Bermuda.
Royal editor Ms Katie Nicholl claimed a meeting did not take place because the King believes any conversation with the Duke of Sussex could be leaked, and said Charles is “nervous” because Prince Harry is not using official palace channels to make contact, Express reported.
Speaking on the first episode of The Royals Uncensored podcast, which launched on April 30 and is co-hosted by Ms Jo Elvin, Ms Nicholl said she had spoken to someone “very close with the King” who shared the concerns. She also described the relationship between Charles and his youngest son as being at “an all-time low”.
In her comments, Ms Nicholl said the official route to reach the King is through his private secretary, alleging that Prince Harry attempts to contact his father directly instead. The claims came as media discussion around the tour continued, including commentary that Prince Harry “could learn” from King Charles’s US visit as broadcasters contrasted royal engagements with the Sussexes’ overseas appearances.
Buckingham Palace has not commented on the podcast claims. However, the remarks add to ongoing scrutiny of how the Duke of Sussex communicates with the Royal Household as the King maintains a packed schedule of official duties.
