Ailsa Anderson: William Won’t Accept Harry’s ‘Half-In, Half-Out’
Prince Harry’s long-running rift with Prince William is unlikely to ease, according to comments attributed to a former senior royal aide, as debate continues over whether the Duke of Sussex could ever repair relations while living in the US.
Express.co.uk reported that Ms Ailsa Anderson, Queen Elizabeth II’s former press secretary, described the Sussexes’ approach of building an independent life in America while maintaining royal links as “a nonnegotiable” issue for Prince William.
In remarks referenced in the report, Ms Anderson said the Prince of Wales “wouldn’t countenance any acceptance of it”, in the context of suggestions that Prince Harry’s camp has sought a “common path” towards reconciliation with King Charles and other members of the Royal Family over the past year.
The latest claims come amid continued scrutiny of the brothers’ strained relationship, with reports that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are not expecting a quick fix in the royal rift after a series of public disclosures, including Prince Harry’s memoir Spare, released in 2023.
Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, marked their 15th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, with the couple visiting IntoUniversity, an education charity supported through their Royal Wedding Gift Fund in 2011, while Prince Harry remains based in the United States following the pair’s decision to step back as senior working royals in 2020.
