Prince Harry has renewed scrutiny of his relationship with the Royal Family after comments made during an appearance in Australia this week, where he referenced the death of his mother, Princess Diana, and reflected on how it shaped his attitude towards royal life.
Speaking at the InterEdge Summit on Thursday, Prince Harry said that after Princess Diana died shortly before his 13th birthday he felt: “I don’t want this job. I don’t want this role”, adding: “It killed my mum”, Express reported.
The remarks were made during a wider discussion in which the Duke of Sussex revisited his longstanding criticism of the pressures of royal duties and the impact the institution has had on his family life since he and Meghan Markle stepped back from official roles in 2020.
