Prince Harry opens up about feeling ‘lost’ and ‘powerless’
Prince Harry has delivered a frank keynote speech in Melbourne in which he told delegates he has felt “lost, betrayed, or completely powerless” at points in his life, as he spoke about grief, pressure and emotional wellbeing. The Duke of Sussex addressed the InterEdge Summit at the Centrepiece conference venue, with Meghan Markle watching from the audience.
During the address, Prince Harry said there were “many times” he felt overwhelmed as the pressure “externally and internally” seemed constant, Hello Magazine reported.
The duke also reflected on coping with grief after the death of his mother, the late Diana, Princess of Wales, and described growing up “in a goldfish bowl under constant surveillance”. He told the audience he was “numb” for years and “didn’t yet have the tools” to deal with it, before later describing fatherhood as a turning point in his approach to seeking help.
His Melbourne comments came as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex continued their Australian visit, and follow his separate remarks during the trip in which he said he would not “point the finger” at King Charles when discussing family matters.
Organisers said summit tickets ranged from £525 for standard delegates to £1,250 for platinum access, with a virtual pass offered for those watching on demand. The report said Prince Harry was not paid a fee for the appearance, as his speech focused on leadership, psychosocial safety and the value of emotional openness in the workplace.
