King Charles Makes Surprise Stop in Aboyne
King Charles made an unannounced public appearance in Scotland on Tuesday, visiting a royal-warrant newsagents in Aboyne near Aberdeen to mark the business’s 100th anniversary. The brief outing drew attention because it was not listed in advance, and comes after the monarch has kept a quieter public schedule in recent weeks.
In Aboyne, about 30 minutes from Balmoral Castle, Hello Magazine reported that the King visited George Strachan Limited on Main Street and told locals he used to call in during childhood stays at Balmoral.
Residents told local media they were surprised by the sudden security presence, with one describing hearing sirens before police cars arrived on Ballater Road. Hello Magazine also quoted the Court Circular, which said the King was received by the Lady Saltoun and met members of the Strachan family and shop staff during the centenary visit.
The appearance came as Prince Harry continued his engagements in Australia, and Britpop News previously reported on his Melbourne comments in which he said he was not “pointing the finger” at King Charles and Princess Diana while reflecting on his upbringing.
Buckingham Palace has not announced any change to the King’s wider programme, with further official duties expected in the coming days as the royal diary returns to a busier schedule. The Aboyne stop, however, offered a rare glimpse of the monarch engaging informally with local businesses and residents away from major set-piece events.
