Harry Styles has certainly done so much in music. Not only has he grabbed tons of awards and gotten so much recognition, but he has also been compared to many unique artists within the pop realm.
Recently, Harry Styles took home a host of awards, but that may not be the best nod that he has gotten all week. As if his week couldn’t get any better, he was also compared to David Bowie and was crowned as today’s David Bowie. Of course, depending on who you ask.
Enter Tony Visconti, who worked heavily with David Bowie himself. He spoke up about his views on Styles, who won Album Of The Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for third solo album ‘Harry’s House’ and also performed his hit single ‘As It Was’ live.
Tony Visconti said: “Someone just told me that Harry Styles is the new Bowie?” He then went on to say that he is starting to shine into those shoes very well.
Visconti’s partnership with Bowie spanned nearly 50 years, as they first collaborated on 1969’s ‘Space Oddity’ and they would go on to make ten albums together up until Bowie’s death.
As reported by NME, Commentors said: “There will NEVER be anyone that’s the new David Bowie he is in a class of his own always will be unique.”
Another added: “Thank you , thank you, thank you Tony for saying what so many of us are thinking.”
One person also shared that they’d heard the same comparison upon the release of Styles’ debut self-titled solo album in 2017 and “immediately said ‘nope’. Bowie was one of a kind and irreplaceable”.
Could it be a bit early to compare? Sure. Could this be just the opinion of one artist and not exactly general thoughts? Sure.
